IPTV Player: Connect for webOS, a TV app you drive with a remote
I wrote the TV sibling of the mobile app for LG webOS using web technologies. The interface is designed for a 1920x1080 TV screen and the remote's arrow keys.
My own product
Year: 2026
Design and development
- webOS web app
- TV interface and remote focus
- Player integration
- LG store preparation
- LG webOS TV
- Remote-first interface
- HLS, DASH and MPEG-TS
Problem
A TV has no mouse or touch; everything has to work with arrow keys and an OK button. Browsing lists of thousands of channels gets painful fast without proper focus handling.
The goal was an interface that speaks the same language as the phone app but is comfortable to use from the couch.
Solution
I wrote the webOS web app with plain HTML, JavaScript and TailwindCSS. It plays through Shaka Player and falls back to the native video element when that fails. Format detection lets HLS, DASH and MPEG-TS streams run through the same player.
- A 1920x1080 interface with clear focus, navigated by arrow keys
- Live TV, movies, series, favorites, history and a watchlist
- Channel search and category pages
- Multi-view for up to 4 streams
- Tests written with Vitest
Result
The app is packaged for LG webOS and ready to install, and the store listing copy and submission guide are prepared. It carries the same brand and product language as the mobile version.
- A TV interface you can fully drive with the remote
- Several stream formats in one player
- A packaged .ipk build
